Walk-a-Marathon

We are now in the final week of the Walk-a-Marathon challenge and it has been a resounding success with positive feedback from parents, teachers and most importantly the pupils.

On Monday 3rd April Mr. Jimmy Deenihan returned to the school for the closing ceremony along with Sergeant O'Sullivan and Garda Moriarty.  Garda Aidan O'Mahony also attended and took time to speak with the pupils about health, fitness and nutrition.

This fitness promoting initiative will saw the school become one of the first primary schools in Ireland to have all of its 220 pupils completing either a full or half marathon in a non-competitive and fun way.

To complete the ‘Walk-a-Marathon’ challenge the children in senior classes each walked/jogged/ran 1km a day for a total of 6 weeks, while the children in junior classes will completed 500m a day over the same period.

The children are undertook this challenge not only to improve their fitness levels, but also to help raise funds to introduce further fitness initiatives and to purchase P.E. equipment and we would like to sincerely thank all who supported this.
